Kyiv – Russian forces have still not managed to encircle or capture Bakhmut in the east of Ukraine, but they have advanced in the city over the last day and are continuing to attack the surrounding areas. This was reported by analysts of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW). For many months, Bakhmut has been at the center of the most intense fighting in the conflict that Russia unleashed in Ukraine last year.

According to footage that ISW was able to identify, Russian forces advanced in southern Bakhmut. Russian military bloggers claim that mercenaries from Russia's private Wagner Group have seized the Vostokmash plant in the industrial complex northwest of Bakhmut. According to Russian sources, the Wagners are moving west and trying to reach the line between the villages of Chromove and Bohdanivka, which lie in the northwest direction from Bakhmut.
According to the Ukrainian General Staff, Russia continued its attacks in the direction of Bakhmut in the past day, Lyman, Avdijivka, Marjinka and Shakhtarske. “The enemy does not stop trying to capture Bakhmut, where positional battles are constantly taking place,” the General Staff said. Cities and villages around this section of the front faced shelling, according to Kyiv, on Tuesday shells hit, among others, Kramatorsk, where at least one person was killed.
