Prague – About a quarter of long-term measuring stations in the Czech Republic recorded temperature records today, surpassing the maximums of recent years. The thermometer showed new highest temperatures for February 18, especially in Moravia, but also in Prague's Klementin. It was over 16 degrees Celsius. Tomáš Mejstřík from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) told ČTK.

After today, the new record is held by approximately 40 stations out of about 160, where temperatures have been recorded for at least 30 years. The thermometer in Dyjákovice in Znojmo showed the highest value of 16.1 degrees Celsius, the previous maximum of 12.4 degrees was from last year. Also in other places, the new highest values often replaced records from last year, 2020 or 2019, Mejstřík pointed out.
“There were not many records in the Czech Republic,” said the meteorologist. So far, the thermometer has shown the most, for example, in Ústí nad Labem, where it was 14.3 degrees Celsius, or in Teplice with 13.5 degrees. They measured exactly 14 degrees in Klementin, where they have been monitoring the weather continuously for almost two and a half centuries. The previous maximum of 12 degrees Celsius here came from the years 1813 and 1950.
Sunday is also supposed to be warm, the ČHMÚ predicts the highest afternoon temperature between seven and 11 degrees Celsius, up to 13 degrees in South Moravia. Meteorologists have issued a warning for some areas against rising water levels after the snow melts, especially in the southern and western parts of the Czech Republic, where it is also expected to blow strongly with wind gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour.
