The indirect effects of the pandemic also include 1.3 million missed hospitalizations and 144.5 million fewer specialist services: the data, which emerged from a research by the Gimbe Foundation (Italian Group for Evidence-Based Medicine), are also confirmed by a qualitative survey by Elma Research, according to which patients do not go to hospital for fear of contracting Covid-19 and because they are unable to orient themselves in the resumption of diagnosis and treatment paths. In this context, to favor the return of the relationship of trust between patient and doctor, Johnson & Johnson Medical Italy created the awareness campaign ‘My health cannot wait‘, intended to support citizens in the safe continuation of their treatment path.
The heart of the campaign is the site www.lamiasalutenonpuoaspendere.it, where is it citizens will find ‘questions and answers’ on how to access hospitals safely, of the check list to make the best use of telemedicine and to be able to orientate itself in the resumption of treatment paths with the suggestions of scientific societies and patient associations; video interviews to the presidents of the patient associations and scientific societies involved which will explain why it is important not to postpone or stop treatment, highlighting the centrality of screening and helping patients in their most urgent needs.
“The campaign was created to support citizens in taking back their care and health, for themselves and their loved ones – has explained Silvia De Dominicis, CEO of J&J Medical Italia – and was built in teamwork with those who share with us the dream of helping to create a high-level healthcare in Italy, but also to rethink the healthcare system as a whole “.
“In the national health system that we imagine the patient is at the center – added De Dominicis – with a territory-hospital care network, to ensure that patients go to the hospital when needed, but that they know how to exploit technologies to be part of the care path even at home, together with health professionals, because care starts at home and ends at home: the health system must be rethought so that it is sustainable and our goal is to raise the standard of care and ensure fairness of treatment. “
Johnson & Johnson Medical Italia promoted the initiative in collaboration with patient associations (such as Alice, Amici obese, Anmar, Europa colon and Europa donna) and scientific societies / professional organizations (such as Acoi-Italian hospital surgeons association, Siaarti-Italian anesthesia society, analgesia, resuscitation and intensive care, Sic-Italian Surgery Society, Sic-Italian Cardiology Society, Sice-Italian Society of Endoscopic Surgery and New Technologies, Sico-Italian Society of Oncological Surgery, Sicob-Italian Society of Obesity and Metabolic Disease Surgery , Sict-Italian Society of Thoracic Surgery, Siet-Italian Society of Thoracic Endoscopy.
