Oberhof (Germany) – Biathletes Michal Krčmář and Markéta Davidová are present at the World Championships in Oberhof in the relay team nominations. The men will start the race on Saturday at 11:45 with Tomáš Mikyská, Jakub Štvrtecký and Jonáš Mareček, the women will start the race at 15:00 with Tereza Voborníková, Tereza Vinklárková and Lucía Charvátová. Twenty-six-year-old David was troubled by problems with her vocal cords in recent days and missed Thursday's mixed doubles race. They will enter the relay in the third section after Voborníková and Vinklárková. Charvátová will be the finisher. The Czechs are missing traditional member Jessica Jislová, who missed the World Championships due to a muscle injury in the rib area.
“In the end, we decided that Vinklárková would go. We compared her running times with (Eliška) Václavíková from the IBU Cup and the individual, that went here. Both did well on the shooting range, but we had to choose one,” coach Egil Gjelland told ČT Sport.
The selection of the Norwegian coach will try to improve the previous year's tenth place from Pokljuka. The women's national team was fifth best in Ruhpolding this season. At the start of the World Cup in Kontiolahti, they finished sixth, in Hochfilzen seventh, and in the general run before the World Cup, they took tenth place in Anterselva. The gold quartet of Jana Kulhavá, Jiřina Adamičková, Iveta Knížková and Eva Háková last won the precious metal from the relays in Borovec in 1993. The title of world champion is defended by the Norwegians, who will attack for the fourth title in a row.
The 32-year-old Krčmář will try in the relay to forget Thursday's unsuccessful mixed doubles race, in which he had to go through three penalty rounds. The most experienced Czech biathlete will run in the relay field, followed by Mikyska, then Štvrtecký and finally Mareček. “He is more accurate on the range,” said shooting coach Matthew Emmons, explaining Mareček's nomination.
Two years ago, the men finished thirteenth in Pokljuka, but this season they were in the top ten three times. They finished fifth in Kontiolahti, eighth in Hochfilzen and sixth in Anterselva. The worst result this season is the 15th place from Ruhpolding. The title of world champions is defended by the Norwegians, in whose team Johannes Thingnes Bö will strive for a record sixth gold in one championship.
