Doha – Tennis player Petra Kvitova advanced to the second round at the tournament in Doha wheels. The two-time champion of the Qatar event first defeated the Chinese Zhang Shuai 7:5, 6:2. Karolína Plíšková, after progressing from the qualification, was eliminated in the first round after a 1:6, 2:6 defeat to Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Thirty-two-year-old Kvitová confirmed that she is doing well in Doha. Out of her last four starts there, she played in the final three times and won the title in 2018 and 2021. She won an even opening set against Zhang Shuai in 45 minutes, in the second she won the Chinese woman's serve three times and closed the duel after an hour and a quarter.
The next opponent of the two-time Wimbledon champion will be the fourth seed Coco Gauff. The 18-year-old American had a free draw in the opening round.
The winner of the 2017 tournament, Plíšková, had to complete a three-round qualification in the Qatari capital. As in Adelaide in January, she advanced to the main event, but was easily eliminated in the first round. Currently ranked 19th in the world with ranking neighbor Alexandrová (18th), she won only two out of seven games on her serve and lost the match in 54 minutes.
