Doha – Tennis players Petra Kvitová and Karolína Muchová did not advance to the quarterfinals in Doha. The two-time winner of the tournament, Kvitová, lost 3:6, 6:7 to the 18-year-old American Coco Gauff and, just like last year, said goodbye to the Qatari capital in the second round. At the end of the program, Muchová did not manage a well-played duel with the French Caroline Garcia and lost to the winner of the Tournament of Champions after a three-hour battle 7:6, 5:7, 4:6.

The 32-year-old Kvitová played an even first match against her opponent from the rising tennis generation. The opening set was decided by the Czech player's breakdown at 3:4, when she made two double faults and lost her serve for the first and last time in the match with a clear game.
The second set reached a tie-break, in which neither player managed more than one point lead. Kvitová, the two-time Wimbledon champion, saved the first match point at 5:6, but at 6:7 she could not get the ball into the court, and world number six Gauff was happy about the progress.
Kvitová, currently the 13th ranked tennis player, was exceptionally successful in Doha during three consecutive appearances in 2018, 2020 and 2021, when she was in the final each time and won two titles.
26-year-old Muchová, who is fighting to return to the first hundreds of the WTA rankings, she played well in the duel with the third-seeded Garcia. At 5:4, she was still unable to complete the opening set, but she won it smoothly 7:3 in the tie-break. However, she lost the next two equal sets in the end and lost to the world number five in the first duel against each other.
