40-hour law: “You have to suffer the adjustments”

In this regard, Senator Gastón Saavedra (PS), appreciated the progress and He pointed out that it is important to generate changes so that a greater number of people can benefit.

It has to undergo the adjustments to allow the multiplicity of workers that exist in production, in the services of our country, to also have equal access to the benefits of this law“, Saavedra said.

The opposition also highlighted the progress, but criticized that the discussion is still pending on the adaptability of the extraordinary days of the SMEs, which allow the implementation of different regimes so that the 40 hours are met.

In this context, Senator Iván Moreira (UDI) accused a lack of willingness to dialogue.

We lack the most sensitive issues for SMEs. The adaptability and exceptional days. But from the Government there has been no willingness to allow flexibility to these“, explained Moreira.

For her part, the Minister of Labor, Jeannette Jara, clarified that on her part of the Government there is openness to dialogue, but that the main objective of the project must not be abandoned.

“We have some pending issues. Without a doubt, we will make an effort to reach an agreement. But this, for us as a Government, has limits. All labor rights that assist workers must be effective in their exercise”, said Jara.

“And, what we want is that this reduction in their working hours reaches them their quality of life, to the possibility of having more time with their family“, explained the Minister.

Finally, another approved indication was the one that seeks to deliver resources to the National Training and Employment Service (Sence). This, so that it can advise small and medium-sized companies, so that in this way, they can adapt to this law and improve productivity.
