Karolína Plíšková also advanced from the round of 16 today, defeating Anhelina Kalininová from Ukraine 7:5, 6:7 and 6:2, but then withdrew from the tournament due to a virus. World number one Iga Šwiateková advanced to the semi-finals without a fight.
After clearly winning the first set, Muchová complicated the match by losing serve at 4:3. But the former 19th ranked player immediately took the serve of the tournament eight Bencicová and then added to the match.
The 26-year-old Czech will play the third seeded Jessica Pegula from the USA for the semifinals. Among the last four players, Muchová, who is currently ranked 112th on the WTA circuit, last advanced to the Australian Open in 2021.
Krejčíková had the upper hand from the beginning in the duel of the Czech Grand Slam champions. The 2021 Dubai tournament finalist quickly took a 4-0 lead and held on to the lead despite one loss of serve. She also started the second set better, in which the winner of the Dubai tournament from 2013 took the serve twice, and won the first mutual duel on the WTA circuit in 75 minutes.
To advance to the semifinals, Krejčíková will face the second the seeded winner of this year's Australian Open, Aryna Sabalenkova from Belarus.
In the duel with Kalinin, Plíšková decided to win the first set with a break at 6:5, and the second set had a similar course. However, the former world number one did not use two match points on her own serve, and Kalinin subsequently leveled after winning 8:6 in the tie-break.
The deciding set was already under the direction of the 30-year-old Plíšková. The finalist of the 2015 tournament was supposed to meet world number one Šwiatek in the quarterfinals. She lost the only mutual match with Polka two years ago, twice 0:6.
Lehečka advanced to the quarterfinals in Doha over Ruusuvuori
Tennis player Jiří Lehečka advanced to the quarterfinals at the tournament in Doha. The twenty-one-year-old quarterfinalist of this year's Australian Open defeated Emil Ruusuvuori, against whom he succeeded for the first time in their third match. While in the previous two duels against the Finnish tennis player he did not even play a set, today he beat him 6:2, 7:6 in the capital of Qatar.
In the opening set, Leheček clearly dominated the court, he lost only two fifths in his serve and beat his neighbor from the beginning of the second fifty of the world rankings in 33 minutes. In the second set, the game was tied. In the tenth game, the Czech tennis player successfully faced a single break point, because even he did not take advantage of his chances afterwards, deciding only a tie-break. In it, Lehečka quickly took a 4-0 lead and never let go.
He will be playing for the fourth time in his career on the ATP circuit to advance to the semifinals. His opponent will be the first-seeded Russian Andrey Rublyov, who defeated Tallon Griekspoor from the Netherlands in three sets. If Lehečka succeeds, he will equal his personal best from the ATP Tour, he played in the semifinals last year in Rotterdam.
Siniaková is in the second round after Curenkova's scratch in Mérida
Tennis player Kateřina Siniaková advanced to the second round at the tournament in Mérida. In the first match at 7:5 for the 26-year-old Czech, the injured Ukrainian Lesja Curenková gave up.
Siniaková did not win a set in the previous two matches with Curenková. Her first win was helped by the health problems of the thirty-three-year-old Ukrainian, who was treated for the first time at the end of the first set. At the beginning of the second game, she scratched.
Siniaková will play Ysaline Bonaventure from Belgium for a place in the quarterfinals, in which she last appeared last September. The fourth-seeded player has a 1:1 record with her, but they last met in 2019.
