Liquid fertilization, increasingly solid

If we think about the journey of our agriculture, from conventional tillage to direct seeding, with intermediate stops in vertical tillage, and then minimum tillage, we will have the best graph of our recent productive evolution. Each of these steps should have included the development of products and techniques that would accompany the genetics, weed control, insect control and crop nutrition. Perhaps our own edaphic, climatic, economic and other limitations gave rise to a different profile of agricultural producer, fast adopter of new productive techniques, and even more so as a developer of their own that allowed them to overcome regional limitations.

This demand for solutions in all areas was accompanied by trade upwards, towards suppliers; in addition to the appearance of new companies willing to invest in R&D.

A good recent example is the development of the crop nutrition with liquid presentations; the need to improve operational efficiency, nutrient availability and the economic equation of the producer, initiated and accelerated the use of liquid fertilizers that today no longer only include macros, but also micronutrients, hormones and others, to complete the total nutrition of the crop without the need to resort to granules.

The company that is leading this part of current technology is Agri Liquid Solutions de Arg. SA. With its MapLiquid line. His Gte. Gral. Leandro Armoa tells us how they worked to complete the supply of liquid nutrients, such as Phosphorus, Potassium; Sulfur and combination with Micronutrients such as Zinc; Boron; Magnesium; etc and the arrival of it to the farmer’s field.

Most of the commercial coordination was achieved with the support of the input sector of the Asturias Cereales SRL brokerage house, and through them, numerous service stations incorporated complex liquid fertilizers into their product palette.

In the Santa Fé Centro area, at Agroservicios Humboldt SA (AGH) we have a witness case of several years of work in liquid crop nutrition, and we wanted part of your technical team to tell us about their motivations and experience.

Both Eng. Hernán Arévalo (commercial) and Eng. Diego Estrubia (responsible for agriculture) agree that once the efficacy of a product or technique in its own production has been verified, AGH is proactive in disseminating it to all its customers.

In the case of MapLiquid from the ALS firm, we already have several years of experience and we were able to verify it from all aspects of the use of fertilizers.

From the operational, liquids have a simpler logistics than granules, and in the case of phosphorous liquids, the times are still much looser than with nitrogenous ones, since MapLiquid has no environmental loss and can be applied in pre-emergency, simultaneously with sowing or in post-emergency; which vacates and enormously multiplies the work capacity of the sowing teams.

They also do not require special equipment, the trailed or automotive sprayers can apply it without problems, or the kits for seeders that incorporate the liquid to the furrow during sowing that are very accessible. Given the complete availability of nutrients we must deal with much less kg. product totals increasing autonomy and number of hectares.

From the nutritional point of view, MapLiquid allowed us to achieve a very fine adjustment of the requirements of each crop. Because all the nutrient units of its technical grade will be in each drop, soluble and assimilable from the first day for cultivation. This is not a minor issue, since in the granulated contributions the nutrients must go through a process of solubilization and transformation, which will be variable according to the soils, temperature, humidity and other conditions that complicate the calculation of availability. , both in times and in doses; and where we also know the possibility of reactions with other elements of the soil and the consequent insolubilization of the nutrient.

In our personal experience, when we started to use it and we discovered all the facilities it offered us, in addition to verifying an excellent result in the performance of our agricultural production, we adopted it and continue to use it uninterruptedly until today.
