Manchester/Porto – Erling Haaland became the third footballer in history to score five goals in one Champions League game. As a result, Manchester City outclassed Leipzig 7:0 in the round of 16 rematch and advanced to the quarterfinals for the sixth time in a row with a 1:1 draw on aggregate. After 12 years, Inter Milan is among the top eight teams. A goalless draw was enough for him in Porto, Romelu Lukaku won the first match at home 1:0.

The 22-year-old Norwegian gunner Haaland scored all the goals from the 22nd to the 57th minute, he managed a hat trick in the opening act. He made his first from the penalty spot, heading in again 78 seconds later after De Bruyne hit the crossbar. In the setup of the first half, he completed his fifth hat-trick of the season after confusion in the opponent's defense. After the change of sides, Gündogan increased, Haaland added two more hits from stops in the box. Kevin De Bruyne set the final score in the final set-up.
Haaland joined elite company, only Lionel Messi in 2012 for Barcelona and Luiz Adriano two years later in Shakhtar Donetsk scored five goals in one LM duel. He has already scored 39 competitive goals this season.
“It's a bit blurry in my head, I don't remember the goals. I remember just shooting and not thinking. The goal celebrations made me quite tired. It's a big night. I'm proud to play in the Champions League. I love the competition,” said Haaland in an interview with BT Sport. “I know Erling and his abilities very well. As soon as he is close to a goal, he immediately goes for it,” said Leipzig coach Marco Rose, who managed Haaland in Dortmund last season.
The reigning English champions have not lost even the eighth match in this year's LM and have not found a winner in 24 consecutive duels at home in the competition since September 2018. At the same time, they equaled their highest triumph in the LM, by the same ratio four years ago they outclassed another German team, Schalke, in the round of 16. “We have to play at the edge of our possibilities every match. Today we showed that we have incredible players and we can show such things at home,” said Haaland.
Leipzig failed in defense at the City Stadium again this time, last year there in the group lost 3:6. “We didn't get into the game at all, that's my responsibility. We defended particularly badly in the box. And that will happen to us in the last 16 of the Champions League… Compared to the second half in Leipzig, Manchester changed a few things in the press, which we didn't expect, ” stated Rose.
Porto was more active against Inter, but the visitors were held by goalkeeper Onana throughout the match. The Portuguese team found themselves close to a goal in the final set-up, which would have sent the match into overtime. But Onana pulled Taremí's header onto the post and Grujič then hit the crossbar. After that, substitute home striker Pepé was also sent off. The fact that they did not lose to Inter at home even in the third match was of no value to Porto.
Inter, who beat Pilsen twice in the group, advanced despite not being able to win on the opponent's pitch for the fourth consecutive competitive match. On the field of Portuguese teams in UEFA competitions, he won only one of 10 matches.
