A man died during a clash between protesters and security forces on Monday (12) in a neighborhood on the outskirts of Havana, the state-owned “Agência Cubana de Notícias” (ACN) reported.

The victim was 36 years old and was taking part in a protest at the Güinera Popular Council in the municipality of Arroyo Naranjo, in the south of the capital, as part of demonstrations against the Cuban regime that began in various locations across the country on Sunday. Several people were detained and others were injured, including security forces agents, in the clash in La Güinera, according to the agency.

The NGO Cubalex has reported the detention or disappearance of 148 people since Sunday, 12 of whom have already been released. Among those arrested amidst the protests are seven journalists.

The protest in this neighborhood, one of the most deprived areas of Havana, was publicized in several videos on social networks, although the dictatorship has kept its internet connection cut since Sunday. In the images it is possible to observe dozens of people advancing through the streets with shouts of “freedom” and “the united people will never be defeated”.

According to the “ACN” version, the protesters “changed the order and tried to go to the National Revolutionary Police Station in the territory with the objective of attacking troops and damaging the installation”.
