Miss France 2021 : l'élection de Miss Tahiti annulée, Matahari Bousquet gardera sûrement son écharpe

Matahari Bousquet should keep his scarf for an extra year : because of the pandemic of sars coronavirus, the committee Miss Tahiti has decided not to hold election this year. Most of the other regional committees have also opted for an election virtual.

The election of Miss Tahiti will not take place this year. The beauty contest is cancelled due to the pandemic of sars coronavirus. Because if Polynesia has decided to reopen its territory to international tourists, the threat of a second wave of Covid-19 hangs over the archipelago. The committee Miss Tahiti would therefore prefer not to take the risk of a too large gathering : the competition brings together every year approximately 3000 spectators. A hard kick to the committee that, this year, celebrated its sixtieth anniversary.

Initially planned in June, the event was, at first, postponed in the month of September. But, on the 27th of June, the axe fell for the eight candidates in the running this year : the contest will not take place. Unlike many regional committees that have decided to opt for an election virtual its representative to the grand beauty contest 2021, Tahiti did not want to use the format of this election.

At the end of march, an online registration system had been created by the national committee in order that the claimant to the title of Miss regional to sign up. “All regions have more or less agreed to do tv shows, with voting by SMS or on the Internet. It would be like if we had to organize the Miss Tahiti Facebook live, but this really is not our wish. So we would probably be one of the only regions not to be represented at Miss France this year , “said the director of the comité Miss Tahiti Leiana Faugerat on Radio 1.

By way of consolation, the committee Miss Tahiti intends to issue a retrospective téléviser to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the contest.

The question remains, who will represent Tahiti at the election of Miss France 2021, which should, a priori, to be held in December next. If the director of the committee Miss France, Sylvie Tellier, gives his consent, this is likely to be Matahari Bousquet, who was elected second runner up of Mercy Botino.
