The closure was confirmed by the Moldovan airline Air Moldova in a post on Facebook and the spokeswoman for Chisinau International Airport, Rodica Rusuová.

The airspace will remain closed until 16:00 local time (15:00 CET), writes the Unimedia agency . Moldova's civil aviation authority has yet to comment.

Moldova said last week that Russian missiles aimed at neighboring Ukraine flew over its airspace. Chisinau has strained relations with Russia over the situation in the separatist region of Transnistria, where the Russian army has its troops, and in recent days has accused Moscow of trying to destabilize Moldova and carry out a violent coup there.
