On the forum MSC2020 world leaders will discuss global security issues
From 14 to 16 February in Germany, will host the annual Munich security conference. It will be attended by over 500 delegates from around the world. The main themes of the program and all the details of the event on the RBC-Ukraine.
The agenda of the conference in Munich-2020
On the eve of the 56 th security conference, the head of the MSC, Wolfgang Ischinger presented the report which outlines the key themes of the forum.
The document deals with the phenomenon of “Westlessness” in foreign policy – the lack of a common strategy among Western countries in relation to global security issues.
- During the conference special attention will be paid to the current crises in Europe and the world, prospects, countries of the European Union in the field of military cooperation, climate and new technologies.
- Leading politicians and experts will discuss the possibility of developing a joint Western strategy in the era of competition of great powers.
- The planned discussion on the issue of international energy security. In particular, the 14 February will be a discussion of the project of construction of gas pipeline “Nord stream 2”.
- A separate session of the conference will focus on the epidemic of Chinese coronavirus COVID19. It will be General Director of the world health organization Theodore Hebraicus.

The participants of the Munich conference
At the conference in Munich will bring together about 500 delegates, including global political leaders, representatives of international organizations and business. It is expected the presence of 35 heads of state and government, 40 defence Ministers, 60 Ministers of foreign Affairs.
List of participants: the President of France Emmanuel macron, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of the Netherlands mark Rutte, Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov, Minister of foreign Affairs of China Wang And etc. the Delegation from USA headed by Secretary of state Mike Pompeo.
Also at the forum will include: NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Secretary General of Interpol Jurgen Stock, the Director General of the who Theodore Gebreyesus, head of Facebook, mark Zuckerberg.
Chancellor Angela Merkel this year will not participate in the MSC. Germany will submit to the Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Bundestag Wolfgang schäuble, and the Minister of foreign Affairs and the Minister of defence.
Zelensky will attend the Munich security conference
The Ukrainian delegation in Munich led by the President. Event organizers have confirmed participation Zelensky in the conference.
“We are pleased that the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky will join us to discuss the situation in Ukraine at a high level on MSC2020”, – stated in the message.
In the President’s Office announced that during a visit to Munich 14-15 February Zelensky will speak at a special session dedicated to Ukraine, and will hold a series of meetings with foreign leaders.
It should be noted that MSC2020 will also visit Petro Poroshenko at the invitation of the organizers of the forum. The fifth President in the discussion plans to address the issue of non-fulfillment by Russia of the Minsk agreements.
At the conference in Munich may be a meeting “Norman Quartet”
Talks in the Normandy format at the level of foreign Ministers might be held on the sidelines of the MSC2020.
The head of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vadim Pristayko not ruled out the possibility of such a meeting. But also noted that the Ministers ‘ talks will not replace a full-fledged summit, to be held in April.
Munich conference: history
The first MSC conference was held in Munich in 1963. Since then, the forum annually brings together leading political and public figures over the world to discuss topical issues of security and foreign policy.
Initially, the participants of the conference were representatives of countries-members of NATO. In 1990-e years, joined the debate by politicians and public figures from countries of Eastern Europe and Asia. Traditionally, the event takes place at the hotel “Bayerischer Hof” in Munich.
Every year before the conference the head of the MSC will publish a Report which examines current developments in the field of global security policy.
