- A strange concert of bells was heard this Thursday evening shortly after 6:30 p.m. from all over the city.
- It is a sound journey imagined as part of the first edition of Voyage en hiver.
The experience is completely new and surely surprised more than one. This Thursday at the end of the day, the ringing of bells was heard simultaneously or almost in different districts of Nantes, until the hypercentre. At 6:32 p.m. sharp, the bell towers of the All-Aids Churches. the East and Sainte-Anne àgrave; the West who woke up first, sinking little by little little city dukes in the spirit of Christmas. The powerful sound then went through the city, from building to building, before the tinkle was heard from the side. No question for these bells, which will ring for about twenty minutes every evening until January 1, to celebrate a union or even to tell the time. This Thursday, they rather signaled the launch of the first edition of Le Voyage en hiver. À On the occasion of the cultural event, the contemporary artist Dominique Blais has indeed imagined; this “sound journey” by reactivating the bells of the Nantes churches, some of which no longer had the habit or even the ability to to play.

The Loire reverberates sound
In total, this surprising concert is served thanks to; eleven churches, without forgetting the castle which was chosen to supplement the cathedral, prevented from ringing because of the fire. Nine bells have thus been renovated to the Voyage à Grave initiative; Nantes, and six buildings were equipped with a sound device. On several decks too, loudspeakers have been installed. installed to pick up the bells of the nearest churches. “Amplification devices aimed at the surface of the water act as a mirror to reverberate the sound, explains Dominique Blais. To make the most of it, you can for example position yourself in one of the pedestrian streets of the Bouffay district, between the churches of Sainte-Croix and Saint-Nicolas. Dominique Blais also advises to “follow the Loire at foot or at bike” for a “feeling of strangeness”.
According to audience feedback, this sonic work should be presented for five years at the festival. the same period, at on the occasion of the next editions of Le Voyage en hiver.
