New York – In the NHL, Martin Nečas contributed three assists to Carolina's 6-0 victory over Tampa Bay and scored three points in the second game in a row. Ondřej Palát prepared one goal for New Jersey, which defeated Arizona 5:4 in overtime. Vítek Vaněček helped the Devils win with 25 saves. There was no Czech goalkeeping duel, Karel Vejmelka remained on the substitutes' bench.

Nečas assisted on both Carolina goals in the second period, which jumped to a 4-0 lead after his actions. In the first case, the Czech striker could have shot, but he improved the position for Teuvo Teräväinen, who finished the quick interplay into an empty net. In the second goal situation, after a pass by Nečas, Shayne Gostisbehere broke through on the power play with a shot from the blue line. He scored the third pass in the 57th minute on the 6-0 goal, which was given by Jesperi Kotkaniemi to Brent Burns' flowing shot from the blue line.

Nečas collected three points (1+2) in the last game against Arizona, but this time he did not fit in among the three stars of the game. The best player was declared by Kotkaniemi, who collected five points (1+4) for the first time in his career. The second star was the author of the hat trick Teräväinen. Fourteen hits were enough for Carolina goalkeeper Frederik Andersen to keep his first clean sheet of the season. The Hurricanes also had power plays in which they scored four times.

Carolina didn't even allow the opponent a single shot in the middle third and after the opening forty minutes they led in this statistic 23:4. “We started very well and kept the bar very high for most of the game. I'm happy with how we played the whole game. We gave a comprehensive performance,” Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour stated.

Tampa Bay lost its fifth straight, and Victor Hedman missed the game. “When you're not doing well, it gets to your head a little bit,” admitted team captain Steven Stamkos. “We have to make a comeback to break the losing streak. I think people forget that we lost some good players (Palát, for example) and that we got a younger staff. We have a different team. The last successes, when we played in the Stanley Cup finals three times, don't automatically mean that it will happen again,” he added.

At the end of the second period, Palát scored a goal to make it 4:2 when he passed the puck from the back post to the scoring Jesper Boqvist. Home team Arizona erased the loss in the third period, Vaněček was not eligible against unprepared shots into the open goal. Nico Hischier ended the overtime from the rebound. New Jersey's win was supported by a goal from Timo Meier, who played his first game for the Devils since being traded from San Jose.

“We lost the puck a few times and threw away a lot of scoring opportunities that we could have had to increase the lead. Instead, we let Arizona back into the game. But luckily, we proved that we can play overtime,” New Jersey coach Lindy Ruff said. His charges have a 10-3 record in overtime this season. In addition, the Devils are doing well away from home with Vaněček, with whom they scored 21 out of 22 points in the last games on opponents' courts.

After being traded from Columbus, goalkeeper Jonathan Quick made his winning debut in the Vegas jersey, making 25 saves in a 4:3 win over Montreal. He made a key save during a game without a goalie in which he stopped Jonathan Drouin's dangerous shot. But the main architect of the success was Ivan Barbashev, thanks to whose two goals the leader of the Western Conference led 3:0 and 4:1.

Detroit scored the first goal of the match in Philadelphia and won the opening period, but eventually lost 1:3 and he failed for the sixth time in a row with a score of 9:27. The key to the turnaround was the equalizing goal of the festive Nicolas Deslauriers in a weakened state. “It was a hugely important goal because we had no energy at the beginning of the second period. It looked like we stopped playing,” Philadelphia coach John Tortorella said.

Detroit striker Filip Zadina shot three times on goal, but came up empty just like his teammate Dominik Kubalík. During the series of losses, the Red Wings fell out of the top eight in the Eastern Conference, to which they now lose six points from thirteenth place.

Colorado is also going through a bad period. The defending champion of the Stanley Cup, after two seven-goal allotments, did not maintain a 2:1 lead at the end of the game with Seattle and lost 2:3 in overtime. Brandon Tanev equalized in the 58th minute and Yanni Gourde decided the game.
