Olomouc – The hockey players of Olomouc defeated Karlovy Vary 4:1 in the first match of the preliminaries of the extra league playoffs and advanced to the quarterfinals. The teams played the match already on Wednesday, but after the first period it was prematurely ended by an unfit playing surface. At 2:0 for Hanáky, the game continued today and they brought the home duel to a successful end. Attackers Pavel Musil and Jakub Orsava signed their win with a goal and an assist. On Wednesday, the home team managed to get into the game when they opened the scoring after 50 seconds, when Kusko was left alone in front of Lukeš and twice got the puck past the goalkeeper. Karlovy Vary could have equalized during the power play, but home goalkeeper Lukáš moved in time against Koblas' first shot.
Then visiting goalkeeper Lukeš made a mistake and Kusko could have scored his second goal after Bambul's pass, but Energie's goalkeeper corrected the hesitation. Olomouc, however, took advantage of the first power play and thanks to the successful stop of Orsav's shot, Musil increased the difference to two goals.
Today, the start was marked by several exclusions, the referees awarded the first penalties after only 25 seconds of the game. The numerical advantage helped the home team to another goal. In the 31st minute, he punished the foul of Energie Černoch's captain with a shot from the first Orsav.
“I didn't start the match well today, we got a goal from a power play. We were probably overmotivated. We said something about it, the third period was I think better and I hope that we will start the next match much better than this one,” forward Martin Kohout said on the club's website.
Káňa and Kucsera had other chances, but they did not hit Lukeš's goal. At the beginning of the third part, the home team threatened to outnumber the home team two to one, but the Karlovy Vary goalkeeper excelled against Klimek.
The West Czechs also dramatized the duel when Kohout beat Lukáš after an independent escape and reduced the score to 1:3 from the visitors' point of view. Olomouc regained a three-goal lead quickly when Plášk's shot from the crossbar was knocked down by defender Stříteský behind his own goalkeeper's back.
