Details in the pit lane
The press room of the Red Bull Ring offers a complete overview of the pit lane, thus allowing you to observe how there is between the teams a differentiation in the positioning of the pitches for the pit stop, in search of those few tenths that a better entry and exit maneuver and a more effective positioning of the car can guarantee. All the teams have the pitch tilted inwards, thus facilitating the entry of the single-seaters, but sacrificing the exit that requires a greater steering angle.
In detail, McLaren, Alpine, AlphaTauri, Haas and Williams are the teams that have the greatest inclination of their pitch, with a conspicuous inward inclination. Ferrari, on the other hand, maintains a more traditional approach, with a car positioning box almost perfectly aligned with the pit lane, like Red Bull and Mercedes. However, the world champions can count on the largest space at the entrance, having the first box in the pit lane which therefore is devoid of any other obstacle at the entrance. The pitches for the pit stops once again confirm the obsessive pursuit of detail in Formula 1.
Towards a cooler weekend
The weather forecast for the second race at Red Bull is improving, with rain currently forecast for Sunday’s race only. As seen also last weekend, however, the mountain climate is characterized by a strong variability, so it is not excluded that the Grand Prix may still be held in dry conditions.
In addition to rainfall, however, an important variable comes from temperatures, down compared to the last weekend. On Thursday, the maximum atmospheric did not go beyond 21 ° C, with the asphalt constantly remaining below 40 ° C. Even in the absence of rain, the prospect of a cooler weekend will still play an important role in tire management and in defining the center-group hierarchies.
Same circuit, different scenarios
The dispute of the Austrian Grand Prix on the same track as the previous event just seven days away reduces the variables of the weekend, but according to the statements of the protagonists there will still be some changes that could revive the script compared to the Styrian Grand Prix . In fact, at the press conference, several riders confirmed that in recent days the teams have worked to improve the set-up in view of the second round at the Red Bull Ring, thanks to the different choice of compounds by Pirelli, while news on the strategy front are also expected. The difference could therefore be made by the ability of the technicians of the individual teams to capitalize at best on the information analyzed during the week.
The return of the full house
The Austrian Grand Prix will see the reopening of the Red Bull Ring to fans full of capacity. On the day dedicated to the media and characterized by the absence of action on the track, the racetrack has already seen a fair influx of fans outside, some of whom have even had the opportunity to enter the pit lane. Contrary to what happened in the past, to preserve the anti-Covid bubbles of the teams, the fans were able to travel the pit lane and the circuit aboard tourist trains. Although unique, the initiative still offers an alternative solution to traditional activities for the public and provides an example for the activities that can be organized for fans at the next Grand Prix, including that of Italy.
