The first two periods of the game between New Jersey and Toronto offered only two goals. The Devils responded to Calle Järnkrok's leading goal in the 37th minute, when Erik Haula managed to score after Palát's pressure in the goal area.

At the beginning of the third period, Mitchell Marner sent the Maple Leafs into the lead, who took advantage of Tim Meier's hesitation on the blue line and played with Vítek Vaněček in the home goal in a separate escape.

However, the Devils' power play continued and the hosts were able to take advantage of it. Palát got in front of goalkeeper Ilya Samsonov and twice delivered the puck behind his back. Three minutes later, Palát Haula's cooperation on the axis worked again and the latter put the Devils in the lead for the first time in the match.

However, the end of the match belonged to Toronto. Five minutes before the end of the third period, Kämpf challenged Michael Bunting to score with a great backhand, and at 57:07 Auston Matthews shot the winner for the Maple Leafs.

Hockey players St. Louis clearly outshot Arizona 42:28, but in the end they broke their teeth on the great Vejmelek. The Czech goalkeeper conceded only twice and was voted the second star of the match for his performance. Blues debutant Jakub Vrána failed to score on his compatriot even once out of six attempts.
