Pastrňák used the power play twice in the match and scored four goals in the playoffs. He made his mark for the first time at the beginning of the second period, when he leveled the score at 2:2 with a great shot with the hockey stick between his legs. In the 44th minute, the Czech gunner scored for the second time. In his typical power forward position in the left faceoff circle, he waited on a great pass from Tyler Bertuzzi to give Boston a 4-3 lead.

After Pastrňák's second goal, the Bruins took the lead for the first time in the game, but lost the lead after three and a half minutes. Thirty-three-year-old striker Zac Dalpe, who made his first career playoff hit, took care of the equalizer.

Boston took one more lead in the game. After Zach's great backhand, Jake DeBrusk got himself in front of the goalkeeper in a weakened position and put the Bruins back in front with a backhand loop. The conceded goal gave Florida a boost. Not even thirty seconds had passed and Matthew Tkachuk took advantage of the continued power play.

The decisive goal was scored by Eetu Luostarinen at 54:22, who shot past Linus Ullmark with a shot over the defending player. Sam Reinhart secured the seventh game for the Panthers, who scored on the abandoned Bruins goal after Gudas' assist.

Carolina turned the game on the ice of the NY Islanders and slipped into the second round. The advancing goal was scored by Paul Stastny after six minutes of overtime. Martin Nečas played almost 18 minutes in the match, in which he did not make an impact.

Advancement was also secured by Dallas, who won 4:1 on the ice of Minnesota in the sixth game and reached the second round after three years. Max Domi and Mason Marchment contributed two points for a goal and an assist in the Stars' win.

The Seattle hockey players lost to Colorado 1:4 in the home game and did not use the advancing match point. The defending champions of the Stanley Cup went on to an important win in the second period, when they bounced back to 3:1 with two goals. Artturi Lehkonen flashed with two hits. His compatriot Mikko Rantanen finished the match with a goal and an assist.
