Prague – Speaker of the House Markéta Pekarová Adamová (TOP 09) is planning to visit Washington in May, where she will be accompanied by a business delegation. The visit plan was among the topics of her meeting today with the new American ambassador in Prague, Bijan Sabet. Pekarová Adamová told ČTK that they also talked about her upcoming trip to Taiwan in March.

At the meeting, Pekarová Adamová appreciated that the United States has a full-fledged ambassador in the Czech Republic after two years. “It is very important for our allied relations,” she told CTK. The last American ambassador in Prague was Stephen King, who announced at the end of 2020 that he would give up the position when the new president, Joe Biden, took office. Since then, the post of US ambassador in Prague has been vacant, Sabet assumed the post in mid-February.

In May, Pekarová Adamová will visit Washington. “It will be a parliamentary delegation, which should consist not only of representatives of the Chamber of Deputies, but will be accompanied by a business delegation. I will be at its head,” she said. He is preparing negotiations with his counterpart, other representatives of Congress, as well as the expatriate community that lives in the USA. According to her, Sabet promised to help prepare the trip.

She also mentioned the parliamentary meeting of the Crimean Platform, which will be hosted by the Czech Parliament together with the Ukrainian Parliament in the fall. The platform brings together national and international efforts to liberate Crimea. “We would love for Speaker (House of Representatives Kevin) McCarthy to attend this big event in October,” she said.

The Speaker of the House is planning a trip to Taiwan in two weeks. It is to be accompanied by a delegation of entrepreneurs, representatives of cities and scientific research and educational organizations. “We talked about this trip and its content because it is very interesting for the United States,” she said. which, with regard to the participation of the North American company Westinghouse in the tender, is one of Sabet's priorities in Prague. “Rather, we talked about our experience, when we were able to turn dependence into complete independence from Russian gas in record time,” said Pekarová Adamová.
