The U.S. military cooperated with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Thursday's helicopter attack in northeastern Syria. The ministry did not say what role Homsi played in IS. A new leader of the Islamic State took over in December after the previous one was killed.
After the territorial defeat of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria in 2017 and 2019, US forces continue to conduct military operations against IS sleeper cells and its leaders. Around 900 American soldiers operate alongside the Kurdish-led SDF in Syria.
The Islamic State and its affiliated organizations operate not only in the Middle East, but also in Africa. He recruits his followers all over the world.
