The presidential candidate of the Historical Pact says he did not know the deceased presenter and instead says he has good memories of his work in some television programs in his childhood
Gustavo Petro dismisses the complaint in Spain for the kidnapping of Pacheco in 1981 at the hands of the M19.
The leader of the Historical Pact, Gustavo Petro, defends himself against the accusations that now, two days after going to the second presidential round, they are awarded on a kidnapping case to the disappeared Colombian television presenter, Fernando González Pacheco (February 2014).
In Spain, the accusation against Petro was admitted, which seeks to involve him in the kidnapping of Pacheco during 1981 at the hands of the extinct guerrilla M-19, to which the current presidential candidate belonged. However, the current senator has dismissed said accusation since he argues that he had nothing to do with said kidnapping as he only saw it through the different television programs of the time.
“I met Pacheco on television, I never had the pleasure of meeting him personally. I met him as a child, on a program that was ‘Animalandia’. I loved Pacheco , he is a very dear figure for my childhood. He did an interview with Jaime Bateman, I remember it was published by the press at the time. They lasted two days and the interview was published, I don’t remember. I could not meet one or the other, ”he commented on Blu Radio, this Tuesday the candidate who exceeded 8 million votes.

< p class=”paragraph”>Likewise, he commented that he even knew that Pacheco and Bateman, after the interview, for which they retained him, became good friends and worked in search of peace:
“They became friends. Pacheco was a friend of Bateman.He helped a lot then, with a peace proposal. I was a young man,” he commented.
Petro also assured that this accusation seeks to interfere in the current presidential campaigns in which he has led in voting intentions, even in the first round, allowing him to go to the second round against the engineer from Santander, Rodolfo Hernández, of the Anti-Corruption Governors League.
“For the answer to what you want to indicate, what is what a man there tried to do, he is persecuting me, thinking that in elections that could hit me. It is a political objective, but I did not know Pachecho or Bateman. I met Pacheco on television, I loved him a lot like all the children of that time”.

And he added: “They laughed out loud. Pacheco talked a lot about that episode. What I can say, even with García Márquez, who is another of the figures that I unfortunately could not meet, they were very good friends.”
So far in the country the complaint has been accepted and, according to a judge from that country, it is necessary to verify with the Colombian authorities that the candidate Gustavo Petro was not pardoned by them, in addition to needing a formal complaint by Pacheco’s family and clearly , to have jurisdiction in the case, confirm the Spanish nationality of the presenter.
The case will continue to advance, although Petro rejects the possibility that it prospers and that, in addition to that, it could affect his aspirations to the presidency of Colombia. It is worth remembering that the second round of voting will be held on June 19, which will be the definitive ones to meet the new Colombian president.
