Warsaw – Poland has started deploying anti-tank barriers on the border with Russia and Belarus. According to Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, this is a preventive measure to deter the enemy.

“We have started to expand security measures on the borders with Russia and Belarus as a precaution. It is part of our defense and deterrence strategy,” Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said on Twitter today. “The first fortifications are already deployed on the border with the Kaliningrad region,” he added in the post, which added photos of iron and concrete barriers.

Poland's border with the Kaliningrad region is about 200 kilometers long. Warsaw also wants to install anti-tank barriers along the 418-kilometer-long border with Belarus. Its leader, Alexander Lukashenko, has provided Moscow with Belarusian territory to attack Ukraine and is creating joint military units with Russia. However, it has not yet actively participated in the invasion, the DPA agency reminded.

Last year, Poland already built a 5.5-meter-high fence on the land sections of its border with Belarus, which is supposed to make it more difficult for migrants to enter the country illegally. Both Poland and the European Union accuse Lukashenko of deliberately bringing migrants from countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan to Belarus, in order to then send them on to the EU.
