Ostrava – The representatives of the Moravian-Silesian region will meet today for the first time since the governor Ivo Vondrák (elected for ANO) announced his departure from the movement. In this way, he reacted to the situation he faced after he openly supported the candidate Petr Pavel at the expense of the leader of the movement, Andrej Babiš, in the second round of the presidential election. The possible removal of Vondrák from his position should not be discussed today. He continues to have the support of the ANO regional club of representatives.

Vondrák announced his departure from ANO on February 24. Today, he will lead the council for the first time as the governor, who is no longer a member of ANO. He has been the governor since 2016. The next regional elections will be held next year. According to Vondrák, none of the representatives of ANO and, according to his information, neither the coalition partners nor the opposition will submit a proposal for a change in the post of hetman.

On the day that Vondrák announced his departure from ANO, the regional presidency of the movement was supposed to deal with the proposal of the national presidency to his exclusion. Vondrák said at the time that he would like to stay in the position of governor until the end of his term of office. He stated at the time that he felt the support of the representatives.

Vondrák is a long-term critic of the conditions in the movement and in the presidential election he did not vote for the chairman of ANO Babiš, but for his opponent Pavel. Last month, Ostrava mayor Tomáš Macura or his deputy for investments Zuzana Bajgarová, who were also critics of the movement and supported Pavel in the presidential election, left the ANO movement. Macura subsequently announced that he would leave the post of mayor of the regional capital within six months.
