Ostrava – City representatives will meet in Ostrava today. This is the first meeting after Tomáš Macura (formerly ANO) announced that he would leave the post of mayor within six months. Together with him, his two deputies elected for ANO want to leave their posts – Zuzana Bajgarová is in charge of investments and Kateřina Šebestová is in charge of the environment.

The mayor, who is a long-term critic of conditions in the movement, announced at the beginning of last week that he was leaving ANO. In connection with his departure, he said that he would offer the position of mayor at the representative club and let his colleagues decide on his further work at the head of the city. On Thursday, he reported that the leadership of the movement began to put pressure on the members of the club to support his departure from the head of the city. He also talked about the fact that the coalition in Ostrava could then change its form so that there would be no representatives of the government parties in it. At Monday's meeting of the club of representatives, Macura finally suggested that he would leave the post of mayor in the coming months. His deputies also decided on the same procedure. Šebestová, who is also the chairperson of the representatives' club, said that the change in leadership should take place within six months.
At the same time, she said that the club had agreed that ANO representatives would not initiate a vote of confidence at today's meeting to the mayor and that the current form of the coalition will be preserved. Most of the representatives of the opposition groups said on Tuesday that they were not going to propose a similar vote either.
A municipal coalition was agreed upon shortly after last year's municipal elections by ANO with Spolu (ODS, KDU-ČSL and TOP 09) and Pirates. In the fifty-five-member assembly, the coalition has a majority of 33 votes. In opposition are the Ostravak movement, SPD, Starostové pro Ostrava and the Ostrava Left.
