In an interview to “Paris Match”, Rhonda told an anecdote about a crazy night in paris, in 1961. An evening in which the singer has learned to dance the twist to the duke and duchess of Windsor.
After opening his nightclub eponymous Chez Régine, located rue du Four in Paris, in the 50s, the singer Régine now has about twenty clubs in the world, which has earned him the nickname of “Queen of the night”. In an interview given to Paris Match, on newsstands Thursday, may 7, the artist of 90 years is assigned on his younger years, and revealed an anecdote about a relative of queen Elizabeth II.
In his interview, the one that is now a great-grandmother back in 1961, a day where she attended “the all-new show ‘West Side Story'”. A strange evening, during which Regine has been called by “an assistant, or the lady-in-waiting of the duchess of Windsor”, a woman named Wallis Simspon. “At the time, Wallis Simspon is one of the most famous women in the world”, says Régine before saying that she was “the creature scandalous that a ‘dévergondé’ the future king of England, Edward VIII“.

In the british royal family, Edward VIII was the eldest son of George V and queen Mary, and had as brother George VI. So, that makes him the uncle of queen Elizabeth II, currently on the throne. During this famous evening, the duke and duchess of Windsor gave “a reception in their small castle parisian bois de Boulogne,”remembers Rhonda. And suddenly, “someone, perhaps the duchess” has invited the singer to learn to dance the twist all the people present at the reception.
A proposal that Régine has “immediately” refused, as she explained to our colleagues from Paris Match. Finally, the singer has agreed on one condition, that the party will continue to “in [s], one club”. “I see them all, duke, duchess, and guests, tumbling down, forty in evening dress and tuxedo, to continue the party at home ! Their royal highnesses are leading the dance. The duke settles on the runway and in front of me, launches into a number that made it all the more of an effect than he puts his whole heart“, she concluded.
