Kyiv – Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu arrived to visit Mariupol, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported, according to the Interfax agency. Last spring, the Ukrainian port on the Sea of Azov was captured by the Russian army after a weeks-long siege.

The Ministry of Defense said that Shoigu in Mariupol visited a new multi-functional medical facility and an emerging district consisting of 12 five-story houses. Representatives of the local authorities also informed him about the construction of a water pipeline between the Russian Rostov region and the occupied Ukrainian Donetsk region. His deputy, Timur Ivanov, who is in charge of the accommodation of soldiers and medical care of the army, came with Shoigu to Mariupol.
On Saturday, Moscow reported that Shoigu had visited Russian troops fighting in Ukraine. He inspected one of the command posts and heard a report from the commander about the current situation and the progress of the army.
