On the 29th of April last, Mr Bruno Le Maire explained as a desire to better protect the businesses of foreign investors.

Protectionism in economic assumed

In many areas considered strategic, the investment in these enterprises weakened by the crisis of the COVID-19, will therefore be controlled by the services of the State, and the government will oppose it. The list of these strategic sectors is constantly growing since several years :

  • Telecommunications
  • Media
  • Defence
  • Information technology
  • Aerospace
  • Agri-food
  • Space
  • Transport
  • Water
  • Medical
  • Biotechnology

If this protectionism is assumed on the side of Bercy, the French government strives not to scare off foreign investors. In fact, the Hexagon must continue to stay attractive in the eyes of foreign investors. During the first 6 months of 2019, France was the 3rd largest in the world as regards foreign direct investment, just behind China and the United States. And to boost the economy, France will more than ever need of these investments. Spare the susceptibility of each individual, while protecting the French economy, so this is a new priority for the government.
