Schumacher, the first retreat is never forgotten | FormulaPassion.it

By Daniil Kvyat e Nikita Mazepin: one year after the last Russian Grand Prix, the audience of Sochi saw another home rider in action again, this time no longer with the former AlphaTauri and Red Bull standard bearer at work, but with the 22-year-old rookie from Moscow, under the Haas. Despite the joy and enthusiasm in seeing a Russian representative in Formula 1 again, the latter’s performance was unfortunately a reflection of the serious crisis of the US team, anchored at the bottom of the world championship standings and without any points obtained.

Again, the team did not go beyond the 18th place at the checkered flag with Mazepin himself, while the latter’s teammate, Mick Schumacher, had to raise the white flag in the third to last lap due to technical problems. A race that the Russian driver commented after an incredible finish characterized by heavy rain: “It has been a long race where a lot of things have happened – analyzed the number 9 – I did a good first lap, doing my best in an attempt to defend myself from more competitive cars behind me, and I think I did well. After the pit stop, from which I came out with hard tires, I still tried to keep the same goal, and one of them obviously overtook me. After that I had a lockout, and when this happens the hard tires never get back to their best condition. As a team we made the right choice to mount the intermediates at the right time, so much so that I was one of the first to return. This allowed me to catch up on the cars in front. It was fun to overtake cars that I would never be able to overtake – he concluded – but, in any case, we know what our limits are and we will concentrate on the next race ”.

Even worse went to the German Mick Schumacher, with Michael’s son who had to surrender at the most excited moment of the race for the looming of a hydraulic failure: “We had a problem that we tried to solve – commented number 47 – but it did not work. That’s how it went: you live and learn, this is Formula 1. These are things that can happen. It’s my first retreat this year, and I was hoping it would come much later or even never this season, but it’s part of the game. We did very well in terms of pace, and the car showed a good pace. We will consider these positives – he concluded – we will analyze and refine them in Turkey ”.
