More than a year ago, Fiona Ufton , Irish singer and daughter-in-law of Sean Connery, made public the last photo in which the Scottish actor was seen, who died today at the age of 90 . Back then, on August 25, 2019 , he is seen celebrating his 89th birthday with Ufton and his son, Jason Connery .
Jason Connery, an actor like Sean, told the British press that his father had been “bad for a while”, and that he died overnight accompanied by his family in Nassau, in the Bahamas . “It is a sad day for all who knew and loved my father, and a sad loss for all the people who enjoyed the wonderful gift he had as an actor,” he added.
Connery, born in Edinburgh in 1930 , was one of the most recognizable faces in cinema. He gained worldwide fame in the 1960s, and 1970s when he began playing James Bond, the most famous secret agent in history. That role, and the rogue magnetism with which he did it, positioned the actor as one of the most desired men in the world and as one of the great icons in the second half of the 20th century.

Throughout the 70s, his presence became common in some of the most remembered adventure films of that decade, from the explorer who accompanied Michael Caine in ” The Man Who Would Be King ” (1975) to the Robin Hood of ” Robin and Marian ” (1976), through the orientalist epic of ” The Wind and the Lion ” (1975).
After that stage as a man of action, however , Connery’s recognition as an actor exploded belatedly , when he starred in a string of blockbusters in the late 1980s.
His portrayal of a tough veteran cop in the movie ” The Untouchables ” earned him his only Oscar , for best supporting actor, in 1987.
In addition to that film, other roles such as Harrison Ford’s father in ” Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade ” (1989), or the captain of a Soviet submarine in ” The Hunt for Red October ” (1990) cemented his prestige among the new generations, without losing their magnetism.

The son of a truck driver and a cleaner, Connery, who celebrated his 90th birthday in August, left acting in 2006 and public life in 2011, to enjoy a golden retirement in the Bahamas .
Very involved in the Scottish independence cause, he took advantage of moments such as the ceremony in which Eeina Isabel made him a knight, in which he appeared with a Scottish skirt, to claim his origins.
Scotland’s chief minister, the nationalist Nicola Sturgeon , was “heartbroken” over the death of ” one of our nation’s dearest children .”
“He was a global legend, but above all a proud and patriotic Scotsman . His commanding presence at the opening of the Scottish Parliament in 1999 showed his love for his country of birth . Sean was a lifelong advocate for an independent Scotland and those of us who share that belief owe him a debt of gratitude, ”he said.
