Anything that can ignite is picked up as a preventive measure.
The City of Senneterre is putting places protection measures against forest fires for its urban perimeter.
Crews are working to create 40-meter-wide strips behind residences north of town.
“We do stripping on the grounds. The owners have been informed. The goal is to leave a 40 meter strip between the houses and the forest to prevent a fire from spreading. »
— Maryline Fournier, Emergency Measures Coordinator for the City of Senneterre
Trees are felled and the soil is brought back to the gravel. Sprinklers will also sprinkle the ground to ensure that, if the fire comes close, it will be stopped, adds Ms. Fournier.
The area has been cleared in preparation for trenching.
Senneterre has also launched a cleaning operation in residential yards to help the population remove all potentially combustible materials. A squad of 50 people has been going door-to-door since Thursday morning.
We want to avoid ignition by embers, says Maryline Fournier. SOPFEU has trained 50 people who will knock on doors and identify combustible elements on the grounds, see how we can help people better clean and develop their yards.
Senneterre carried out a clean-up operation on Thursday.
At the time of this writing, the City de Senneterre affirmed that the situation remained stable at the level of the forest fires and that no other preventive evacuation was planned for the moment.
