According to the newspaper Bild, the shooting left seven dead and eight injured. The server Focus Online, referring to the emergency services, reports on six victims and several seriously injured. He also stated that the perpetrators are apparently still on the run. However, according to the police spokesman, there is no indication of this yet.

“All the dead have gunshot wounds,” said the police spokesman, who, however, did not give a specific balance of the victims of the incident. The police also said that they do not yet have any confirmed information about the motives of the crime. “We ask you not to share any unfounded assumptions or spread rumours,” the police said on Twitter.

Hamburg's interior ministry issued a warning, speaking of “extreme danger”. “Today around 9:00 p.m. one or more unknown perpetrators shot at people in the church,” the ministry said in a statement. The area surrounding the incident is closed and police have advised drivers not to travel in the area. “Avoid the danger area. Stay in place in the danger area and do not go out for now,” police said.
