Coach of Ukraine told how he prepared for the penalty.
The head coach of the national team of Ukraine Andriy Shevchenko recalled his performances for the national team, the first penalty for “blue-yellow” and the best specialist on the 11-meter strikes, reports the Chronicle.info with reference for Today.
“In the UEFA Euro 2004, Ukraine was in a difficult group. The two teams were on the course – Spain and Greece, which started their way to victory at the European championship. Decisive was the game with the Greeks at the hotel. We lost 0:1, conceding a goal from Angelos Charisteas in the final minutes. After that, it remained a purely theoretical chances to qualify from the group. Before the trip to Athens was a memorable game in Lviv against Armenians — 4:3. I managed to grabbed a brace and one goal scored from the penalty spot. This was my first a shot from the point in the national team of Ukraine”, – said Shevchenko.
The owner “the Gold ball” notes that he did not have a single strategy for the 11-meter: “Penalties always beat in different ways, but most often at the goalkeeper. We cooked, talked about how goalkeepers behave, but kick with 11-meter mark is primarily psychology. Sometimes, the goalies play well. They have much less of a chance, but the best of them as just different and such skill”.
Shevchenko also called the chief specialist on penalties: “I Can say that for me the main expert in this question of the goalkeepers has always been Olexandr shovkovskyi”.
