Moscow – The West's real goal in Ukraine is to defeat Russia, threaten China and maintain its monopoly position, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said today, according to the TASS agency. He also accused the West of preparing in advance for a confrontation with Russia. NATO member countries and other allies militarily support Kiev against Moscow, whose troops invaded the neighboring country last year.

“Washington and its accomplices are carrying out their strategic plan, in which they try to provoke other countries to confront other countries, mainly Russia and China. The conflict in Ukraine is a clear confirmation of this criminal policy. Its real goal is the strategic defeat of Russia , creating a threat to China and maintaining a monopoly in the world,” Shoigu said. The Russian Defense Minister made his comments in Delhi on the sidelines of a meeting of the defense ministers of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which, in addition to Russia, also includes China, India and some Central Asian countries.
The current open conflict in Ukraine was started by Russia , which sent its troops across the border. Moscow says it was forced to intervene in Ukraine to protect the Russian-speaking population from oppression and to prevent the West from using Ukraine to threaten Russian security. Shoigu repeated the same arguments today.
Kyiv and the West, on the other hand, state that these are baseless pretexts for starting a war, the aim of which is to occupy Ukrainian territory.
