All the experts predicted, and Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy, warns the citizens for weeks. The health crisis will be followed by an economic crisis of an unprecedented magnitude.
The publication of the statistical studies of Employment centre turns these predictions into a sad reality. The number of job seekers without any professional activity (class A) rose by 22.6 % for the month of April alone. A situation unprecedented since the creation of these indicators in 1996.
843.000 additional people, therefore, have been recorded for the month of April alone. A spectacular rise, which is explained by :
- The “odd jobs” have disappeared, eliminating the possibility for a large number of job seekers to keep a link with the world of work
- Business, severely impacted by the crisis, have had to dismiss and/or not to renew fixed-term contracts, of temporary work contracts, …
At the end of April, France had 4,575 million unemployed, and since the end of January, this is an increase of 30.3 % in the number of job seekers (+ 1.065 million). Figures that reveal the extent of the economic crisis, and now we are no longer in the domain of the prediction, but in the finding of a reality, which is likely to deteriorate further in the weeks and months to come.
