At ces in Las Vegas at the beginning of the year, Sony surprised the public by presenting a prototype of a 100% electric car : at the beginning, this Vision-S has been designed as a simple technology showcase to present the know-how of the brand among car manufacturers, but it seems that Sony has other plans for this project…
In fact, the japanese firm has unveiled on YouTube a new video of the Sony Vision-S, indicating that this prototype had just arrived in Tokyo to pursue the development of its embedded technologies, and tests on an open road will take place this year.
On paper, the Sony Vision-S has to come in and do the shadow on the Tesla : under its hood is an engine of 200 kW on each axle, for a total power of 544 horsepower transmitted to all four-wheel drive. The announced performances are first-order, with a 0 to 100 km/h swallowed in 4.8 seconds only.
It is also equipped with an arsenal of 33 sensors enabling advanced features for driving assistance, but also recognize people and objects in the outside as well as inside, and adjust its settings accordingly, depending on the preferences of each driver.
An audio system, 360° embedded
According to Sony, the Vision-S offers assistance to the autonomous control of level 2, that is to say that it is able to manage the steering, acceleration and braking under the supervision of the driver. Further developments may, however, make it go even further in the autonomy, and new features may be added by a simple update over the air (OTA).
Designed in collaboration with great names of the automobile and technology, such as Nvidia, Qualcomm, Continental or Bosch, Sony Vision-S has an interior that is especially sleek with multiple screens, including a large touch screen panoramic on the dashboard, but also an audio system, 360° house, running speakers in each of the four restraints are…
