Prague – Today, the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) will publish data on the development of consumer prices in February. Analysts expect inflation to slow down from January's 17.5 percent by half to one percentage point. According to them, the rate of price growth has decreased due to the fact that energy prices already hit price ceilings in January and have nowhere else to increase.

“The year-on-year rate of inflation will show a noticeable decrease in February. This will largely be a consequence of developments on the energy market,” Cyrrus Chief Economist Vít Hradil told ČTK. “In most other sections, we have already completed the New Year's revaluation, so there is no reason to expect a dramatic development. Food products will probably remain a problematic category, but even they will not repeat the enormous price increase from January,” he added.

In January, the consumer prices rose by 17.5 percent year-on-year, inflation thus accelerated from December's 15.8 percent. The prices of goods rose by 20.8 percent year-on-year in January, and the prices of services by 12.2 percent.
