Brno – Former football player Petr Švancara wants to save the stadium behind Lužánky in Brno, where he planned to build a training center. However, the city wants to demolish the stadium due to its poor condition. Švancara therefore does not rule out a lawsuit against the city. He said this in an interview with ČTK. But first, they must find out the essential information and consult with lawyers. Last year, Švancar's project to create a training center succeeded in the participatory budget and he had a promise from the city that the center would be built at the stadium. At the stadium more than 40 years ago, Zbrojovka won the only title in the highest football competition.

The city had big plans for the location in the past and wanted to build a new stadium there. For many years, however, it had a dispute with the businessman Libor Procházka, who has real estate on city land that prevented the construction of a new stadium. “Now that the court has been won, I will learn that the sports field will not be there,” said Švancara.

He said he had spent the past weeks on a televised competition on a remote island with no cellphone or information. At the meeting of the council at the end of February, the city management, referring to the structural engineer's report, said that over time the stadium behind Lužánky will have to be demolished due to its deplorable condition, and therefore it will not be possible to implement Švancar's project entitled Let Lužánky Švanci. Councilor for sports Tomáš Aberl (TOP 09) said that it is dangerous in the stadium and it is not suitable for children to run there.

But Švancara was not satisfied with that. “Before the election, I was at the stadium with city representatives and we agreed that work on the training center would begin in March. There was supposed to be a field, facilities. And now I learn that they don't want the project. If someone changes it in a few weeks, then I they lied to my face. I want to see the statistician's report,” said Švancara, who had a career farewell at the stadium in 2015, which was attended by 35,000 people.

He admitted that on one side the stand is in a worse condition, and that is why it is not allowed, but according to him, the other side is fine. “The grandstand is on a slope, there were 35,000 spectators and it didn't fall. I'm no engineer, but it can't fall on a slope. It's not about me here, but to save the stadium, the flagship in Brno. In 1978, Zbrojovka won the title there and they went our grandfathers, fathers there. Now their grandchildren could go there,” said Švancara, who has three children himself.

Once he finds out all the necessary information, he wants to organize various events to save the stadium. Among them, for example, petitions or protests. One petition to save the stadium has already been created. The former footballer does not rule out a lawsuit either. “I will meet with lawyers and we will decide what my legal options are. It was suggested to me that a lawsuit could be considered due to the cancellation of the center,” added Švancara. . In October 1996, 44,120 spectators came to the match between Brno and Slavia. The last league match was played there in September 2001. Since then, the stadium has been falling into disrepair. However, some events took place there, such as Švancar's farewell. In 2019, the stadium was used for the filming of a film about the legendary runner Emil Zátopek.
