“I'm very happy that I won the psychologically challenging final today. We both know each other well and nerves play a role there. Everyone wants to win in the final, it was hard to keep that in mind,” said Svrčina in an interview with Czech Television. “Right before the tournament, I didn't know if I would even play in the main competition, if I wouldn't have to play in the qualifiers. But sometimes it works out like this. Before the tournament, I couldn't even imagine that I would defend it here (the finals), or that I would even win.” he added.

Twenty-year-old Svrčina, who was not enough against Vít Kopřiva in the deciding match last year, got the match under control at the end of the first set after a balanced start. Macháč, two years older than him, who requested a break for treatment due to heart palpitations and high pulse at 2:3, did not offer many chances for a comeback in the second set.

“I served and it jumped out of nowhere heart, literally. My heart rate was about 220. It's happened three or four times before, but it stopped after about a minute, but now I played the whole game with it and then I waited two and a half minutes on the bench before it will fall,” Macháč described the momentary health indisposition. But he did not blame the defeat on her. “I messed up too many balls and lost the first set. Dalík played an awful lot in the second set, I tried to change something, but today it just wasn't possible,” he stated.

So far, Svrčina's only title was won in 2021 at clay in Prague. Thanks to winning the second trophy, he will now return to the second hundred in the world rankings.
