Monterrey (Mexico) – Marie Bouzková will not build on her successes from previous years at the tournament in Monterrey. The Czech tennis player, as the second seed, was surprisingly eliminated in Mexico already in the first round after losing 4:6, 2:6 to the Slovak Anna Karolína Schmiedlová.

Twenty-four-year-old Bouzková played her first final on the WTA Tour in Monterrey in 2020 and advanced to the quarterfinals last year, but this year she finished right in the opening duel. Unexpectedly, the 30th player in the world was not enough for Schmiedl, ranked 70 places lower, whom she defeated in the previous two duels, including the one in Monterrey three years ago, without losing a set.
