Zurich – The autumn World Cup in Qatar brought a profit of 5.8 billion dollars (128 billion crowns) to the International Football Federation (FIFA). Overall, despite the global coronavirus pandemic, the organization also earned a record 7.568 billion dollars (over 167 billion crowns) between 2019 and 2022. FIFA made the announcement after today's meeting.

For the first time in history, the tournament in Qatar was held in an unusual autumn term, at the turn of November and December. FIFA originally expected about a billion dollars less income over the past four-year period. “These are extremely good numbers. They prove the strength of FIFA,” said FIFA president Gianni Infantino. For the period from 2023 to 2026, the organization expects a profit of 11 billion dollars (almost 243 billion crowns).
The FIFA meeting also decided that the organizer of the 2030 World Cup will be selected in September of the following year. Last week, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay filed a joint bid to host the World Cup in 2030. Spain, Portugal and Ukraine also intend to bid for the tournament together. Morocco is also interested, the intercontinental candidacy of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Greece is also being considered.
The next world championship will take place in 2026 in the USA, Canada and Mexico. As expected, FIFA has confirmed that all three host nations will automatically feature in the tournament. It will feature 48 teams for the first time, up from 32 since 1998. The format of the final tournament has not yet been decided.
FIFA has assigned Saudi Arabia to host the next Club World Cup, the tournament will take place from the 12th to the 22nd. December of this year. In the current format with eight teams, seven continental champions plus a total from the host country, it should be played for the last time.
The next club championship should take place in June 2025 with already 32 teams. Twelve of them should be from Europe, six from South America, four each from Asia, Africa and the CONCACAF confederation, which brings together the countries of North and Central America and the Caribbean, and one from Oceania. The remaining spot would go to the team from the host country. The tournament could be hosted by the United States of America as a preparation for the World Cup the following year.
