Litomyšl (Svitava region) – The 65th year of the Smetanova Litomyšl music festival starts today in Litomyšl. This year, due to the overhaul of the Litomyšl castle, the main stage moved to the multifunctional hall, which was specially adapted for the show. The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, will also attend the opening.

The Czech Philharmonic with conductor Tomáš Netopil and pianist Kirill Gerstein will perform at the opening concert tonight. On the program is the Scherzo from the Triumphal Symphony in E major, op. 6 Bedřich Smetana, Concerto in C minor for piano and orchestra No. 2, Op. 18 by Sergei Rachmaninoff and the Slavic Rhapsody Op. 45 Antonín Dvořák.

From June 15 to July 2, the Smetanova Litomyšl Festival will offer 35 programs of the main program, which will complement the accompanying program in the Festival gardens and Smetanova výtvarná Litomyšl. The dramaturgy chose the Belle Époque (beautiful times), as the period at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries is referred to. The unprecedented progress of science and technology enabled the development of all human activities, including art. The birth of the theme was an agreement to present one of the famous compositions of the time, Songs from Gurre by Arnold Schönberg.

An accompanying scene of the show called Festival Gardens will also be prepared. A music stage, a theater amphitheater and a dance hall will be created in the Monastery Gardens.
