Los Angeles – American Wyndham Clark won golf's US Open for his first major title in a dramatic finish to the 123rd edition of the tournament, holding off pressure from Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy to go within one of the four-time major winner shot. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler from the USA finished third on the course at the Los Angeles Country Club.

Twenty-nine-year-old Clark, who failed to make the cut in his previous two starts at the US Open, showed strong nerves at the end of the fourth round. After bogeys on the 15th and 16th holes, he saved par on the penultimate hole and made no mistakes on the last putt either. He scored a total of 270 shots, ten under par.
“This is my second win on the PGA Tour. The first one was unbelievable and this one is unbelievable,” Clark said, recalling his victory at the Wells Fargo Championship in May. “It still hasn't completely hit me. The last five or six weeks have been quite a whirlwind. So I'm honored to be here,” he added.
Immediately after the winning putt, he celebrated on the course with his older sister and younger brother and was emotional then he remembered his mother who succumbed to breast cancer in 2013. “I really wish mom was here with me so I could hug her and celebrate. But I know she's proud of me,” he said.
McIlroy, who dominated the US Open in 2011, has been waiting for his fifth major title for nine years. In Los Angeles, he also went around the last round in even par, but on the greens, he was inches away from a better score several times. “I fought until the end, but I couldn't do it. I didn't do anything really wrong, but I haven't made a birdie since this morning. I'll have to try to use my chances better,” he stated.
Rickie Fowler, who he was in the lead for the first three days and shared the lead with his compatriot Clark before the final, in the end the attack on the first major title in his career did not succeed. He shot a final round of 75, five over par, and had to settle for a tie for fifth place.
