Brno – With a special program tonight, they commemorated the 300th anniversary of the death of Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel in the monastery church of St. Peter and Paul in Rajhrad in Brno. It is together with the cemetery church of the Ascension of St. The cross is the work of a famous Baroque architect of Italian origin. For the first time this year, the Benedictines also prepared a cultural program for the Night of the Churches, this is the second time they are participating in the event.
“Although this is only the second Night of Churches when we open our temple, we regularly participate in the museum night. In previous years, both events were held relatively close to each other, so we did not use the opportunity to open the church during the Night of Churches. But this year it happened for the second time, that there is a greater distance between the two events, and that suits us,” Brother Heřman František Řezáč from the Benedictine Order told ČTK.
He pointed out that Santini's building is open to the public on weekdays, but it closes at 5:00 p.m. in winter and 7:30 p.m. in summer. “Whoever wants to come to pray will come. And it's the same with the Night of Churches, we don't expect any crowds, the visitors will be counted in tens rather than hundreds, but whoever wants to come, will come,” added the religious. The church will close at 10:00 p.m. today.
