Vienna – Last week, the Austrian police discovered a ton of marijuana near Vienna, which is a record amount, according to the server of the Austrian newspaper Kurier. It also detained 13 suspects who were growing cannabis in two halls south of the Austrian capital. The main suspects are a 29-year-old Czech woman and a 53-year-old Austrian.
The group, which also included citizens of Croatia and Serbia, had been trafficking the drug for years, according to the website. She grew cannabis in halls with an area of 2,000 square meters and also in an apartment in Vienna's Brigittenau district. In addition to a large amount of marijuana, the police also found gold and cash worth almost 300,000 euros (seven million crowns), as well as forged passports.
The market value of the seized drug is around 4.2 million euros (99 million crowns).
In a current year, the Austrian police discover around two tons of marijuana throughout the country. “I don't remember the last time we confiscated one ton all at once,” said Daniel Lichtenegger from the Austrian police.
