Berlin – The Berlinale international film festival is at its peak in the German capital, which will award prizes – bear statues – tonight. 19 pictures compete for the main prize, which is the Golden Bear. Český is absent from them, just like last year.

In the main competition section are, among others, the films Disco Boy by the Italian director Giacomo Abbruzzese, Irgendwann werden wir uns alles erzählen (One day we will tell each other everything) by the German director Emily Atefová, Manodrome by the South African director John Trengov or the animated film Art College 1994 by the Chinese director Liu Jien. The winner of the Golden Bear will be chosen by a jury led by the American actress Kristen Stewart.

Although the Czech Republic is not represented in the main category, Czech productions are not missing in the accompanying Encounters competition section. Here, the feature-length documentary Eastern Front, created by Ukrainian directors Vitaly Mansky and Yevhen Titarenko, is competing for the award. The co-production of Lithuania, Ukraine, the Czech Republic and the United States was supported by the Stání cinematography fund in the amount of 2.3 million crowns.
