Prague – The inauguration of the new president Peter Pavel will be completed on March 9 in the Cathedral of St. Congratulations to the Czech Philharmonic (ČF) and the Prague Philharmonic Choir (PFS) under the direction of conductor Jakub Hrůš. Together, in addition to the national anthem, they will perform three symbolic works – Meditation on the Old Bohemian hymn St. Wenceslas by Josef Suk, a part from the oratorio St. Ludmila by Antonín Dvořák and the Te Deum by the same composer. The solo singing parts will be taken by soprano Kateřina Kněžíková and bass-baritone Adam Plachetka. ČTK was informed about this by ČF spokesman Luděk Březina.

“The offer for the Czech Philharmonic and the Prague Philharmonic Choir to perform at the inauguration of President Petr Pavel was a spontaneous idea of the members of both ensembles. In this composition, under the direction of conductor Libor Pešek, they performed Dvořák's Te Deum at the mass celebrated by František Cardinal Tomášek after the first election of Václav Havel as Czechoslovak president on December 29 1989. Now the same work will be heard in the cathedral under the leadership of the chief guest conductor of the Czech Philharmonic, Jakub Hrůš, together with Suka's St. Wenceslas Meditation,” said David Mareček, general director of the ČF and director of the PFS.
A meditation on the old Bohemian hymn Svatý by Václav Josef Suk will be heard upon the arrival of the new president. After the national anthem, the ČF will perform Dvořák's entire Te Deum. “I am extremely pleased that we can musically celebrate the inauguration of our new Mr. President in such a wonderful way, with compositions that perfectly express how important a worldly and spiritual event his inauguration is,” said Hrůša, conductor and designated music director of the Royal Covent Garden Opera House in London .
ČF, as the first Czech orchestra, regularly participates in the most important events of the state. For example, at the Smetanova Litomyšl festival last year on July 1, in the presence of representatives of the European Commission and members of the Czech government, she inaugurated the presidency of the Czech Republic in the Council of the European Union. Another concert within the framework of the Czech presidency, this time on the stage directly on the Vltava River with the background of Prague Castle, took place on September 2. The anniversary of the Velvet Revolution was commemorated last year at two extraordinary concerts of the Czech Philharmonic by its artists-in-residence, conductor Simon Rattle and singer Magdalena Kožená. And on January 2, 2023, the first Czech orchestra under the baton of chief conductor Semjon Byčkov played Antonín Dvořák's New World Symphony at a concert to mark the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Czech Republic.
Prague Castle will be open to the public on the day of the inauguration, who will be able to watch the ceremony on large screens on Hradčanské náměstí and in the third castle courtyard. Czech Television will also broadcast the live broadcast.
