Boston hockey player Jakub Lauko beats Buffalo goaltender Ukku-Pekka Luukkonen in an NHL game on March 3, 2023.
New York – Czech forwards led the Boston hockey players' 7:1 victory over Buffalo in the NHL. David Pastrňák scored a goal and assisted on two, Jakub Lauko (2+0), Pavel Zacha (1+1) and David Krejčí (0+2) each scored two points. This season, the sovereign won for the ninth time in a row and surpassed the hundred points mark already in the 61st game. He beat the three-digit goal the fastest in the history of the competition and improved the record of Montreal, which needed one more game in the 1976/77 season.

In the remaining matches of Thursday's program, Czech players have already registered as assistants. Filip Zadina set up one goal for Detroit, which lost at home to Seattle 4:5 in overtime. David Kämpf had an assist in Toronto's 2-1 win in Calgary. Radko Gudas assisted on Florida's only goal in a 1-2 loss to Nashville. Petr Mrázek caught 31 of 34 shots in Chicago's 2-5 defeat of Dallas.
Despite the unequivocal result, the first goal in Boston was expected until the 33rd minute, in which Dmitry Orlov used a power play. Pastrňák scored his second assist on his shot. In 86 seconds, Lauko advanced from the crossbar and he was happy with a goal in the NHL for the first time since November 1st. The 22-year-old forward now has three goals in 12 starts.
“I'm trying to give my best performance and I think I succeeded,” said Lauko, who scored two goals in one game for the first time in the NHL. “I'm not the type of player to score thirty goals per season. My role is different, goals are just an extension, so I'm happy that it happened,” he gushed.
After two actions of the Czech series, Boston increased to 4:0 in the third period. For the third goal, Pastrňák got the puck at the blue line, sent it between the circles to Krejčí, and he improved the position with a backhand pass for Zach. It was no longer a problem for him to finish the interplay into an open goal and he scored in the third match in a row.
Pastrňák punished the premature play of Buffalo without a goalkeeper in the 55th minute for passes from Zacha and Krejčí. The native of Havířovsk thus celebrated in style the new eight-year contract, which the club announced on the day of the match.
“I didn't worry too much about it. Especially when I went on the ice, I completely let it go. Of course, at home sometimes you think. It's different, we're older and you don't make decisions alone,” explained Pastrňák, who is Boston's most productive player this season (43+40) and the second best scorer in the competition. “It's amazing to spend a career in one team. That's what was going through my head during the negotiations,” he added.
In the rest of the game, the bag of goals was torn apart. First, Buffalo's honorary goal was scored by Casey Mittelstadt. Boston answered with goals from Patrice Bergeron, Connor Clifton and closed the scoring in the last minute with another stop by Lauko.
“It's unbelievable, they're having an amazing season,” Lauko commented on the team's record. “You go into a game and think that you don't want to spoil it for the team. I felt a little pressure every time I stepped on the ice. But this was the first time I played my game completely,” he was pleased. The only downside for Boston was that Brad Marchand didn't finish the game.
Detroit played for the first time without Filip Hronk, who was traded to Vancouver a day earlier, and lost 0:1, 1:3 and 3:4. Zadina came up with a goal to make it 3:3. The Czech striker attracted the attention of both the defender and the goalkeeper and passed a backhand between the circles to Jonatan Berggren, who finished the action into an empty net. Oliver Bjorkstrand decided Seattle's win in overtime with his second goal of the game. Jarred McCann also scored two goals for the winners. Jakub Vrána was missing from Detroit's lineup.
Calgary, whose substitute Daniel Vladař was watching the match, struck in the third minute. Blake Coleman came through. Kämpf won the puck for Mitchell Marner in the equalizer and Calle Järnkrok decided the match in the 43rd minute.
Nashville got Matt Duchene and John Leonard into a two-goal blockbuster in the opening period. Florida outshot the opponent 24:11 in the rest of the game, but only reduced it. Gudas set up the conversion, in which Brandon Montour adjusted on a pass from Ryan Lomberg for the final 1-2.
Dallas converted a key action in the opening minute of the third period, in which Jamie Benn beat Mrazek from the goal area to send the team to the third knowledge. The remaining two goals came at the risk of Chicago without a goalkeeper. The main architect of Dallas' victory was Roope Hintz, the author of a hat trick. He beat the Czech goalkeeper twice in power plays and in the end sealed the win with an empty net.
“We had some passes that didn't go well, but we fought until the end and Mrazek caught great. He gave us a chance to win. Even after the changes, I think we they were a balanced opponent,” Chicago defenseman Seth Jones said.
He had in mind, for example, long-time leader Patrick Kane, who made his debut in the New York Rangers jersey on Thursday. The match was spoiled by Ottawa, which turned the score from 2:3 to 5:3 in the third period. Derick Brassard helped the win with two goals, marking his 1,000th start in the NHL. Kane spent almost 20 minutes on the ice, sent four shots, but scored only two negative points.
