Today you can find lots of tips on how to strengthen the immune system. But nutritionist Svetlana FUS explained why it was important to maintain intestinal health.

The nutritionist noted that 70-80% of all cells in our immune system are found in the intestinal mucosa. There live more than 400 species of bacteria that affect the whole body. These bacteria are involved in the synthesis of important nutrients – vitamins, amino acids. They produce enzymes for processing of food fibres, transform toxic substances into non-toxic and accelerate their excretion from the body.

And the main thing is that the intestinal microflora largely determines our ability to protect against viruses and pathogenic bacteria. The more we get, the poorer it becomes our microbiome-the community of all microorganisms of the intestine and mucous membranes. This happens for many reasons and depends on:

  • the character and quality of the food
  • medications, especially antibiotics, stress,
  • chronic intestinal diseases.

In such cases, the balance between beneficial bacteria and allows harmful microorganisms to grow and develop. The body becomes vulnerable to infection.
The same cause and in people with chronic inflammatory diseases: Allergy, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, reduced the diversity and numbers of intestinal microflora.

One means of prevention of disorders of intestinal biocenosis is to eat foods that have probiotic properties.

What are probiotics?

It is food products or medicines containing clearly defined live microorganisms that restore and maintain the balance of intestinal microflora at optimum levels.

We used more drugs probiotics that are prescribed for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, intolerance of food, dysbacteriosis during antibiotic treatment. They prevent from the side effects of antibiotics – diarrhea, abdominal pain or flatulence.

It is important to regularly eat foods that contain live beneficial bacterial cultures.
Products-probiotics include:

  • sour-milk drinks – kefir, yogurt, curdled milk;
  • pickling – unpasteurized fermented (not pickled) cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, apples;
  • soft and hard cheese;
  • fermented soy products – tofu cheese;

And yet, in addition to needed probiotics dietary fiber (prebiotics), which serves as food for the intestinal microflora. If the diet it is not enough, and the flora is poor. Best prebiotics – vegetables, leafy greens, fresh fruits with skin, whole grains and legumes.

It is important to remember that foods with high sugar content have on the contrary a bad effect on our microflora.

Let every day our plates are with different sources of dietary fiber and probiotics in its natural form. The benefits will be as for the intestinal microbiota, and the entire body.
